THE Object

Patrick Carpentier reinterprets a classic by engraving the word ALL on one side and the word NOTHING on the other. Suddenly we can no longer look at this multi-purpose blade the way we used to. A mystery arises from it. All or nothing, like a cry for freedom, a revolutionary chant that we all understand. A sparkling flutter of brutal gravity.

THE ARTIST

Writing is always the starting point for Patrick Carpentier. It is writing that brings to the fore a message of absence. Whether in his films, installations, sculptures, or performances, he constructs a simple narrative centred on the observation of language through antinomies. It is by observing the unspoken that he questions speech, a silence seen as a counter-speech, a counter-sign, which itself becomes a sign in itself.
