THE Object

With this edition, writing is again at stake. Made from a found Luna Park token, one side of which reads SANS VALEUR (VALUELESS), and the other side AMUSEMENT (FUN).
Patrick Carpentier offers us the opposite of something that screams worth, a solid silver jewel that glorifies non-value. This dandy detail is ironic. It’s an unexpected coin toss and a lucky charm that you carefully keep in the bottom of your pocket to lightly caress with your fingertips.

THE ARTIST

Writing is always the starting point for Patrick Carpentier.
It is writing that brings to the fore a message of absence. Whether in his films, installations, sculptures, or performances, he constructs a simple narrative centred on the observation of language through antinomies.
It is by observing the unspoken that he questions speech, a silence seen as a counter-speech, a counter-sign, which itself becomes a sign in itself.
